Switching your current account to us

We'll open your account with us in just 7 working days

There's no charge for the Current Account Switch Service. The service is available to our personal customers, small businesses, charities and trusts. Once you've chosen and agreed your switch date with us, we guarantee it will take only seven working days.

All accounts are subject to status and eligibility. Terms and conditions apply.

The Current Account Switch Service – the facts:

  • We’ll manage the complete switch process for you in just 7 working days
    – and its backed by the Current Account Switch Guarantee
  • Choose a switch date to suit you and your finances, just make sure you allow at least 7 working days
  • We’ll transfer all your existing payments to your new account, transfer your balance*, close your old account and confirm your switch is complete
  • If any payments are made to your old account they’ll be credited to your new account, automatically, for 36 months
  • If anyone makes payments to your old account we’ll let them know your new account details, so they can update their records

*Overdraft transfer is subject to status and eligibility. Please note that if you have an overdraft facility on your old account, you must make sure that the limit on your new account is sufficient to cover the whole debit balance on the old account. If this is not the case, we won’t be able to transfer the full balance and your old account will not be closed.

Switching step by step

Days 1 and 2

Once you’ve asked us to start your switch by completing the switching forms and choosing your switch date, we’ll contact your old bank or building society to arrange the switch and let you know they have agreed to the request.

Days 3 to 5

We’ll transfer all your payment arrangements across to your new account and make sure your new account is ready for the switch date.

Day 6

If there’s a debit balance on your old account, you need to make sure there’s enough money in your new account with us, to cover the transfer.

Day 7

Your switch will be complete. The balance will be transferred to your new account and your old account will be closed.

After your switch

Any payments made to your old account will be credited to your new account, automatically, for 36 months. We’ll also contact the sender to let them know your new account details, so they can update their records.
