We are working with Leeds Grand Theatre and Opera North to make the arts accessible to all. Our support for Transformation: the restoration of the Leeds Grand Theatre and the creation of a permanent home for Opera North has led to a more enjoyable experience for audiences.

Opera North

If you’ve ever thought about trying out opera but want to find out more first we’ve developed an Opera Made Simple guide.

We also want to make the arts more accessible for the wider community through projects such as:

  • Opera for the community – we invited 60 local people to watch Summer Strallen in Paradise Moscow at Leeds Grand Theatre. Many were elderly and although many sang in local choirs, some had never been to the theatre before.
  • Opera In the Queue – Opera North stars entertained customers in Yorkshire Bank branches.
  • Barmy for Opera – Opera North and Yorkshire Bank taught the Barmy Army to sing ahead of a test match between England and South Africa.
  • Yorkshire Bank Choir – Yorkshire Bank Christmas choir raised money for Help the Hospices by singing Christmas carols out and about in Leeds with the help of Opera North
  • Opera 1, Opera North's education workshops for secondary schools. This initiative aims to build confidence in teenagers whilst introducing them to a different art form - opera.
