Our Security |
Security for communications and transactions over the Internet is important for both the Yorkshire Bank and our customers, and we'd like to let you know that the Yorkshire Bank's Internet Banking security system has been selected by our data security experts following extensive research.
To help deliver secure Internet Banking services, the Yorkshire Bank has implemented a solution that seeks to provide robust authentication and privacy.
Encryption of information between the customer and the Yorkshire Bank is provided by an industry standard 128-bit SSL encryption technology. This is the current security standard utilized by most banks in connection with their internet banking customers.
In addition to our sophisticated cryptographic implementation we employ multiple firewalls and a real time Intrusion Detection System to protect the Yorkshire Bank's internal systems and customer's information against any attempted security breaches. |
Security Certificates |
Yorkshire Bank's Internet Banking service uses certificates to initiate encryption of all communication between you and the Yorkshire Bank and to help ensure the confidentiality of your information.
How to confirm a secure session
After launching the Yorkshire Bank Internet Banking Login screen, you should do the following:
- Ensure SSL encryption security is in place, and
- Only accept a valid security certificate. Security certificates for Yorkshire Bank Internet Banking are issued by VeriSign
To check these two issues for your operating system and browser, follow the instructions below.
Internet Explorer
- Position mouse pointer over the padlock (
) displayed in the status bar, text box will display SSL 128bit.
- Double click on the padlock to view the security certificate
A valid certificate will be issued to home.ybonline.co.uk and today's date should be within the valid date range.
Firefox
- Double click on the padlock (
) displayed on the status bar at the bottom right of the Login page.
A valid certificate will be issued to home.ybonline.co.uk and today's date should be within the valid date range.
Opera
- Click on the "show address bar" button (
) to show the address bar.
- Click on the padlock (
) in the address bar to display the security certificate.
A valid certificate will be issued to home.ybonline.co.uk and today's date should be within the valid date range.
Safari
- Click on the padlock (
) displayed on the top right corner of the Internet Banking window.
A valid certificate will be issued to home.ybonline.co.uk and today's date should be within the valid date range.
Netscape
- Click on the padlock (
) displayed on the status bar at the bottom right of the Login page. This will open up a Security info page.
- Select to View Certificate.
A valid certificate will be issued to home.ybonline.co.uk and today's date should be within the valid date range. |
Transaction Security |
Security of transacting over the Internet is a priority for Yorkshire Bank. Our Internet Banking service uses what is amongst the best security available in the market place. We are so confident of the security of our Internet Banking service that we provide the following assurance.
We will repay the money removed from your Yorkshire Bank account if:
- The cause is an error on our part; or
- There are unauthorised transactions on your Yorkshire Bank account occurring after you notify us by telephone or in writing (including, without limitation, by notifying us electronically using the Secured Messaging facility on Internet Banking) that someone else knows your security details (that is, your Internet Banking password and/or your security questions).
We will not be responsible for any losses if:
- You have acted fraudulently, without reasonable care or have not met the security standards outlined from time to time in the Banking Code and in the Internet Banking Terms and Conditions).
